Feast of St. Peter and Sea in Balestrate

It takes place on 29th June, the day when we celebrate St. Peter, the protector of fishermen. The event, organized by the fishermen of the small town, is characterized by fireworks, tasting of fried fish in the central square, concerts, street lighting until the dead of night and a spectacular procession of the Saint on a cart, specially set up for the festivities. The wagon is the “vara”, a boat that is pulled by ropes by the fishermen who wear the typical blue pants and the blue and white striped shirts. The day ends with a spectacular fireworks fired from a boat in the sea.
